Superfood #6: Oatmeal
Seriously, what’s more beautiful than a healthy, happy, energetic mom (and hey, minimized belly bloat doesn’t hurt either!). Super-charge your day and fuel your kids’ energy with a hearty breakfast that’s easy to make and fun to eat! Yes, I said FUN to eat…. Read up on the health benefits, then check out my simple trick for getting my whole family to LOVE oatmeal!
Benefits for Everyone
- Reduces cancer risk
- Promotes normal development during pregnancy, childhood, and adolescence
- Intestinal health
BONUS Beautifying Benefits for Mom
- Maintains long-term energy
- Reduces bloating and helps with weight loss by making you feel full longer
- Improves restful sleep so you wake up feeling refreshed
*Serve oatmeal ‘sundaes’ by prepping bowls of toppings everyone can pile on top of their breakfast – diced apples or pears, dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, apricots, dates, etc.) chopped nuts (pecans, almonds, walnuts), flax seeds, wheat germ, fresh berries, honey, pure maple syrup, real-fruit jelly (no sugar or artificial sweeteners – just fruit & fruit juice) pumpkin puree, cinnamon. Use whatever your family likes & put out 3-5 options for them to choose from.
Homemade oatmeal is healthier and less expensive than prepacked instant varieties, and if you make a large batch on the weekend, you can save leftovers for quick hearty weekday breakfasts!
